Rheum palmatum
L'un des herbes les plus importantes en médecine traditionnelle chinoise ; utilisé comme puissant laxatif, anti-inflammatoire et pour décongestionner la stase sanguine ; essentiel dans les formules d'urgence et de détoxication.
Da Huang (Rheum palmatum) is a foundational herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine, primarily recognized for its potent laxative, anti-inflammatory, and blood-stasis-resolving properties. Its key bioactive compounds—emodin, rhein, aloe-emodin, and other anthraquinones—drive its therapeutic effects, which are employed in both acute constipation and chronic inflammatory conditions.
The laxative action of Da Huang is mediated by anthraquinone glycosides that are hydrolyzed in the colon to active aglycones, which stimulate colonic peristalsis by inhibiting Na+/K+-ATPase and increasing water and electrolyte secretion. Anti-inflammatory effects arise from suppression of NF-κB and COX-2 pathways, while anticancer potential involves induction of apoptosis via mitochondrial pathways and inhibition of topoisomerase II. Rhein and emodin also exhibit antibacterial activity by disrupting bacterial cell walls and inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis.
