Contexte
Hypoxis hemerocallidea, commonly known as African potato, is a multipurpose medicinal plant from the Hypoxidaceae family [PMID:25392578, PMID:34283859]. The tuberous rootstock, or corm, is the primary part used for medicinal purposes [PMID:32527245, PMID:18693293].
Usages traditionnels
Traditionally, the corm is used to treat wasting diseases, testicular tumours, insanity, barrenness, impotency, bad dreams, intestinal parasites, urinary infections, benign prostate hyperplasia, and inflammatory conditions [PMID:32527245, PMID:34283859]. It is also used for managing burns, wounds, and skin-related diseases [PMID:31265885], as well as childhood convulsions and epilepsy [PMID:17724761]. In KwaZulu-Natal, it is used as an antenatal remedy to prevent premature abortion and miscarriage [PMID:19122381].
