Eleutherine palmifolia
Plante indigène de Kalimantan (Bornéo) utilisée par le peuple Dayak pour le diabète, l'hypertension et le cancer.
Bawang Dayak (Eleutherine palmifolia) is a medicinal plant from Kalimantan, Indonesia, traditionally used by the Dayak people for diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. Modern research indicates antidiabetic, antihypertensive, anticancer, and antimicrobial activities, attributed to naphthoquinones (eleutherine, eleutherin, isoeleutherine) and steroids. Evidence level is C (limited/pilot studies).
The naphthoquinones eleutherine and isoeutherine inhibit α-glucosidase and α-amylase, reducing postprandial hyperglycemia. They also activate AMPK and improve insulin sensitivity. Antihypertensive effects may involve ACE inhibition and vasodilation via nitric oxide pathways. Anticancer activity is linked to topoisomerase inhibition and induction of apoptosis through ROS generation. Antimicrobial action disrupts bacterial cell membranes.
