Zingiber purpureum
Gingembre violet indonésien utilisé dans le Jamu traditionnel pour l'inflammation.
Zingiber purpureum (Bengle Indonesian) is a medicinal ginger species traditionally used in Jamu for asthma, rheumatism, and postpartum recovery. Modern research indicates anti-inflammatory, bronchodilator, and anti-rheumatic activities attributed to compounds such as DMPBD, curcuminoids, terpinen-4-ol, and sabinene. Evidence is limited (Grade C), primarily from in vitro and pilot clinical studies.
DMPBD and curcuminoids inhibit COX-2 and 5-LOX pathways, reducing prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis, which underlies anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic effects. Terpinen-4-ol and sabinene act as bronchodilators via β2-adrenergic receptor agonism and inhibition of histamine release from mast cells. Additionally, the rhizome exhibits mild analgesic and antipyretic actions through modulation of TRPV1 and central prostaglandin pathways.
