Its key active compounds include saikosaponins, rutin, flavonoids, and polysaccharides, which contribute to its therapeutic effects. Despite limited clinical evidence (Level C), it remains a common herb in TCM for liver support and fever reduction.
Saikosaponins, particularly saikosaponin a and d, exert hepatoprotective effects by inhibiting NF-κB activation, reducing TNF-α and IL-6 production, and modulating cytochrome P450 enzymes (e.g., CYP2E1).
