Ephedra intermedia
Espèce d'éphédra d'Asie centrale utilisée en médecine chinoise et mongole ; contient des alcaloïdes d'épéhrine.
Ephedra intermedia is a Central Asian species of Ephedra used in traditional Chinese and Mongolian medicine. It contains ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, which act as sympathomimetic amines, providing bronchodilator and decongestant effects. Evidence level C indicates limited clinical studies support its use for asthma and nasal congestion, while traditional uses include cold/flu, edema, and rheumatism.
Ephedrine and pseudoephedrine are indirect sympathomimetics that stimulate alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors by promoting norepinephrine release and directly activating receptors. This leads to bronchodilation (beta-2), vasoconstriction (alpha-1), and increased heart rate and blood pressure (beta-1). The alkaloids also cross the blood-brain barrier, causing CNS stimulation. Additionally, tannins and flavonoids may contribute mild anti-inflammatory effects.
