Pogostemon cablin, known as Patchouli, is an aromatic medicinal herb from the Lamiaceae family used in traditional Chinese medicine and Indian Ayurveda [PMID:36511100, PMID:33413544].
Contexte
Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth.) is an aromatic, herbaceous plant native to Southeast Asia [PMID:26909987]. It is widely utilized in the fragrance and cosmetics industries for its essential oil [PMID:26909987, PMID:37110702].
Usages traditionnels
In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), it is used to treat colds, nausea, fever, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, chest tension, tiredness, and abdominal pain [PMID:33413544, PMID:35282804, PMID:37110702]. It is also traditionally used for insect and snake bites [PMID:25985355]. In aromatherapy, it is used to treat depression and stress, soothe nerves, regulate appetite, and enhance sexual attraction [PMID:37110702, PMID:25985355].

Mécanisme d'action
Patchouli alcohol (PA) inhibits obesity by reducing the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-γ) [PMID:31750759]. PA also targets GNAI1 to dissociate the GNAI1/ARRB1 complex, inhibiting pro-survival pathways (ERK/JAK2-STAT3/mTOR) to induce autophagic cell death in non-small cell lung cancer cells [PMID:42088441]. In H1N1 infection, PA binds to ubiquitin-specific peptidase 18 (USP18) and inhibits the NF-κB-signaling pathway to block inflammasome-mediated proptosis [PMID:39909257]. Pogostemon cablin extract (PCE) promotes wound healing and cell proliferation in human keratinocytes through the activation of OR2AT4 [PMID:39194757].
