Contexte
Petiveria alliacea L. (Phytolaccaceae), also known as 'mucuraca', 'guiné', 'pipi', or 'anamu', is a perennial shrub indigenous to the Amazon rainforest, Central America, the Caribbean, and sub-Saharan Africa [PMID:26944236, PMID:25895883, PMID:22890225].
Usages traditionnels
It is used in folk medicine to treat central nervous system (CNS) disorders including anxiety, pain, memory deficits, and seizures, and is utilized for its sedative and anaesthetic properties [PMID:26944236]. It is also used in the treatment of leukemia, breast cancer [PMID:24637191], dysentery, and intestinal infections [PMID:28621111], and as a hypoglycemic agent in Jamaica [PMID:25014851]. Additionally, it has been used in religious ceremonies [PMID:26944236, PMID:25895883].

Dibenzyl trisulphide (DTS) acts as a signal transduction molecule for MAPKinases erk1 and erk2, causing hyper-phosphorylation critical for long-term memory [PMID:17621839]. It also demonstrates acetylcholinesterase inhibition [PMID:35358623] and suppresses NF-κB expression and the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α in macrophages [PMID:28808377].
