Plagianthus regius
Calculateur gratuit de posologie — doses adultes et enfants selon le poids.
Plagianthus regius, also known as ribbonwood or lowland ribbonwood, is traditionally used for treating skin conditions and promoting wound healing. Maori people have long valued this New Zealand native tree for its soothing and emollient properties when applied topically. The bark and leaves are prepared as infusions for external use on minor wounds, skin irritations, and inflammatory skin conditions. Evidence level: C (traditional use with limited clinical research).
Plagianthus regius contains mucilage, tannins, and flavonoids that contribute to its wound-healing effects. The mucilage provides demulcent and emollient actions, forming a protective soothing film over irritated skin and mucous membranes. Tannins offer astringent properties that help tighten tissues and reduce minor bleeding or weeping from wounds. Flavonoids contribute anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects that may support the healing process. Evidence level: C.
Traditional preparation involves making an infusion from the bark or leaves of Plagianthus regius. For topical use, steep 1-2 teaspoons of dried bark or leaves in a cup of boiling water for 10-15 minutes, then apply the cooled liquid to the affected area using a clean cloth or compress. As a tea for internal use, one cup of this infusion may be consumed up to three times daily. Evidence level: C (traditional use).
Plagianthus regius is generally considered safe during pregnancy when used as directed. The herb has a long history of traditional use without reported adverse effects for pregnant women. However, as with any herbal preparation during pregnancy, consult a qualified healthcare provider before use. The mucilage content is gentle and well-tolerated, and no pregnancy-specific contraindications have been documented in traditional use. Evidence level: C.
There are no documented drug interactions for Plagianthus regius in the scientific literature. The herb is very well tolerated with a low likelihood of pharmacological interactions due to its primary mechanism involving soothing mucilage rather than potent bioactive compounds. However, the tannin content could theoretically reduce absorption of certain medications if taken simultaneously. As a general precaution, separate herbal and medication doses by at least two hours. Evidence level: C.
Plagianthus regius is very well tolerated with minimal reported side effects. The primary safety consideration is avoiding use in individuals with known allergy to plants in the Malvaceae family, which includes hibiscus, okra, and marshmallow. Allergic reactions could include skin rash, itching, or irritation upon topical application. Discontinue use if any adverse reactions occur. No serious adverse effects have been documented in traditional use. Evidence level: C.
