Résumé
Polygonum cuspidatum is a medicinal plant rich in resveratrol and other bioactive phenolics used in traditional medicine for inflammatory and metabolic conditions [PMID:36620922, PMID:37241822].
Contexte
Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb. et Zucc (Polygonaceae), also known as 'Huzhang', is a medicinal plant and vegetable distributed in China, Korea, and Japan [PMID:36620922, PMID:38513776]. Its dried roots and rhizomes are listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia [PMID:36620922, PMID:24194779].
Usages traditionnels
Used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat inflammation, hyperlipemia [PMID:36620922], cough, hepatitis, jaundice, amenorrhea, leucorrhea, arthralgia, burns, and snake bites [PMID:24194779]. It is also used for clearing heat, eliminating dampness, draining the gallbladder to relieve jaundice, removing blood stasis to alleviate pain, and resolving phlegm [PMID:34719206].
Composés actifs
The plant contains flavonoids, anthraquinones, and stilbenes [PMID:36620922]. Key bioactive constituents include resveratrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene) [PMID:22432802], polydatin (resveratrol-O3-beta-glucoside) [PMID:39334769], and emodin [PMID:27188216].
Mécanisme d'action
Resveratrol acts via cell apoptosis, antiproliferation, and anti-inflammation [PMID:22432802], and inhibits protein-tyrosine kinase (p56lck) [PMID:8277318]. Polydatin increases oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) efficiency to reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) [PMID:39334769]. Emodin inhibits NLRP3 inflammasome activation by promoting FUNDC1-mediated mitophagy and suppressing CK2-mediated phosphorylation of FUNDC1 [PMID:40520006].
Preuves cliniques
Preuve ACancer
Resveratrol is believed to work as a chemopreventive agent by inducing apoptosis and suppressing cell proliferation [PMID:22432802, PMID:25788047]

Preuve D
Sécurité et effets indésirables
Emodin, a constituent of P. cuspidatum, may lead to hepatotoxicity, kidney toxicity, and reproductive toxicity, particularly with high doses and long-term use [PMID:27188216].
Synthèse des preuves
Evidence ranges from high-level systematic reviews for anticancer potential to preclinical animal and in vitro studies for organ-specific protective effects (kidney, liver, lung).
