Suillus Bovinus (Suillus bovinus): Benefits, Dosage, Safety & Evidence

Questions fréquentes

How does Suillus bovinus work for skin conditions?

Suillus bovinus contains bioactive compounds, specifically polyphenols and terpenoids, which are thought to contribute to its medicinal effects. These compounds exhibit antioxidant and antimicrobial properties that may help protect the skin from oxidative stress and bacterial infection. While the exact mechanism is not fully understood due to limited clinical trials (Evidence Level C), traditional use suggests these constituents support the skin's natural healing processes when applied topically.

Does Suillus bovinus interact with any medications?

Currently, there are no well-documented drug interactions associated with Suillus bovinus in scientific literature. Because it is primarily used as a topical preparation for skin conditions, systemic absorption is minimal, reducing the likelihood of interactions with oral medications. However, evidence is limited (Evidence Level C), so patients taking immunosuppressants or topical corticosteroids should consult a healthcare provider before combining treatments to avoid unforeseen reactions.

What is the recommended dosage for Suillus bovinus?

There is no standardized clinical dosage for Suillus bovinus due to a lack of clinical trials. Traditional usage in Eastern European folk medicine typically involves topical preparations made from mushroom extracts. Users generally apply these preparations to the affected area as needed for wound healing or skin conditions. Because safety data is limited (Evidence Level C), one should follow specific product instructions or consult a medical herbalist for guidance.

Is Suillus bovinus safe to use during pregnancy?

Suillus bovinus is considered unsafe for use during pregnancy. Due to a lack of specific safety data regarding its effects on fetal development and maternal health, medical herbalists generally advise avoiding this mushroom while pregnant or breastfeeding. The potential risks associated with its active compounds, such as terpenoids, have not been adequately studied in pregnant populations, so caution is strictly advised.

What are the benefits of Suillus bovinus mushroom?

Suillus bovinus is traditionally used in Eastern European folk medicine primarily for treating skin conditions and promoting wound healing. The mushroom contains polyphenols and terpenoids, which are believed to offer antimicrobial benefits. While these uses are supported by traditional knowledge, scientific validation is currently limited (Evidence Level C). It is most commonly utilized in topical formulations to support the healing of minor wounds and skin ailments.

Résumé

Suillus bovinus is a wild edible ectomycorrhizal fungus that forms symbiotic relationships with pine trees [PMID:38535219]. It is recognized for its ecological value and potential bioactivity, including BACE1-inhibitory and antioxidant properties [PMID:38535219, 39614969, 40979573].

Contexte

Suillus bovinus is a wild edible ectomycorrhizal basidiomycete fungus [PMID:38535219, 23715468]. It typically forms symbiotic associations with pine species such as Pinus thunbergii, Pinus massoniana, Pinus yunnanensis, and Pinus sylvestris [PMID:38664655, 36354929, 41352302, 17033817].

Usages traditionnels

Described as a wild edible mushroom [PMID:38535219, 40133810].

Composés actifs

Identified compounds include meroterpenoids with BACE1-inhibitory activity [PMID:39614969], three new alkaloids (bovinalkaloid A-C) [PMID:38756729], pulvinic acid derivatives (atromentic acid, variegatic acid, and xerocomic acid) [PMID:19352038], and antioxidant polysaccharides (specifically fraction Y-1) [PMID:40979573].

Mécanisme d'action

Meroterpenoids from S. bovinus inhibit $\beta$-secretase (BACE1), which may suppress amyloid-$\beta$ production [PMID:39614969]. Bovinalkaloid A inhibits Fusarium solani by damaging membrane permeability and integrity, increasing malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide, and inducing lipid peroxidation [PMID:38756729]. Pulvinic acid derivatives (variegatic and xerocomic acid) act as nonspecific inhibitors of cytochrome P450 enzymes (1A2, 2C9, 2D6, and 3A4) by reducing ferryl heme to ferric heme [PMID:19352038]. Polysaccharide fraction Y-1 reduces reactive oxygen species (ROS) and enhances activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) [PMID:40979573].

Preuves cliniques

Preuve DAlzheimer's disease (pathogenesis)

Isolated meroterpenoids showed BACE1-inhibitory activity (IC50 values ranging from 1.0 to 23.7 $\mu$M) [PMID:39614969]

Preuve DGinseng root rot (Fusarium solani)

Bovinalkaloid A strongly inhibited mycelial growth and spore germination (MIC 2.08 mM) [PMID:38756729]

Preuve DOxidative stress (HepG2 cells)

Polysaccharide fraction Y-1 reduced ROS levels by 34.73% $\pm$ 1.31% at 50 $\mu$g/mL [PMID:40979573]

Interactions médicamenteuses

Pulvinic acid derivatives (variegatic acid and xerocomic acid) isolated from S. bovinus are effective nonspecific inhibitors of cytochrome P450 enzymes 1A2, 2C9, 2D6, and 3A4, which are primary drug-metabolizing enzymes [PMID:19352038].

Synthèse des preuves

The current evidence consists primarily of in vitro, genomic, and ecological studies (Level D). There are no clinical trials or systematic reviews regarding human therapeutic use.
