Cnidium monnieri
Plante chinoise traite du yin en manque et des affections cutanées ; la coumarin osthol démontrée pour booster le testostérone.
Cnidium monnieri is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb used primarily for kidney yang deficiency and external skin conditions. Its modern applications include use as an aphrodisiac, antifungal, and antipruritic, with the coumarin osthol being the key active compound responsible for testosterone enhancement. Other active compounds include isopimpinellin, xanthotoxol, bergapten, methoxsalen, and isoimperatorin.
Osthol, the primary coumarin in Cnidium monnieri, enhances testosterone production by stimulating Leydig cell steroidogenesis via the cAMP/PKA signaling pathway. It also exhibits antifungal activity by disrupting fungal cell membrane integrity. The furanocoumarins bergapten and methoxsalen contribute to antipruritic effects but also increase photosensitivity by intercalating with DNA upon UV exposure. Additionally, the herb may modulate histamine receptors to reduce itching.
